Brief Bio: Joseph A. Davis, Ph.D.

 

Joseph A. Davis, Ph.D., LL.D. (honoris causa) specializes in the areas of clinical-forensic psychology, behavioral health, organizational behavior and wellness, human resource training and development, disaster operations, planning and trauma response, incident management and debriefing. With over 20 years of experience in both public service and the private sector, his employment background includes public service psychologist, research psychologist, university professor (academic programs in clinical psychology, law, medicine, forensics and trauma studies), medical journal editor, and public safety and organizational consultant. A very respected educator, academic and clinician, he is widely published in the field with several books, 20 book chapters and over 60 publications to his credit as author or co-author. A former Assistant Clinical of Professor at UCSD School of Medicine, he is currently on the staff for DHS-FEMA DMORT Region IX and the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS). With adjunct faculty appointments at USC, CSU, UC and CSPP/Alliant, Joe holds a B.S. with honors in psychology with a minor in biology, M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and a honorary doctor of laws degree. A member of ATSS and ICISF, he is also a diplomate and fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (AAETS). He completed his inpatient and outpatient clinical training and education through the Veterans Administration Medical System and his forensic mental health education and training through Central State Forensic Hospital (FCI-Petersburg) and the University of Virginia at the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy in Charlottesville (ILPPP). He sits on several editorial journal advisory boards including the Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments and the Journal of Clinical-Forensic Medicine. He resides in San Diego with his wife and two children.
